Growing herbs: beginners
Growing your own herbs is a great way to have fresh herbs year-round. Herbs look and smell great and there’s always the added value of being able to use them in home cooking. Here are a few things to keep in mind about growing herbs for beginners just starting.
About herb plants
Let’s start out with some basic information about these plants. Herb leaves and seeds contain essential oils, thanks to which they have a pronounced taste, antibacterial effect and a positive effect on the functioning of the intestinal tract. Additionally, herbs contain a lot of vitamin C and other active substances. If you’re growing herbs, you can be sure that the care you put into them will directly reflect in their nutritional value, taste and smell. Don’t be coy with the love you give them – you’re going to be the one eating them!
Tips and tricks
Growing herbs can be tricky for beginners. Herbs grow well in sunny areas, preferably in individual pots or planted together with each other. They should get at least 5 hours of sunlight per day and need watering 2-3 times a week. It can sometimes be helpful to cut the plants to stimulate healthy growth. This should especially be done if they are getting too big for their pot. Moving your edibles around is also recommended because this will encourage them to grow healthier roots.
If you feel that your herbs might be deficient in crucial elements, don’t hesitate to add some organic fertilizer. Remember that the greens are something you will be eating so stimulating development and growth with chemical fertilizer isn’t the best idea. Try mixing a pinch of natural organic fertilizer Plant-I-Boost Universal in the soil of your edibles, and don’t forget to add some love! Your plants need it just as much as you do!
